About

Welcome to WellSprings and WineSkins, in which you will find a selection of my essays, blog entries, and articles that have been published over the years. My name is L. Dwight Turner, but many folks know me simply as Mick, a nickname that has stuck with me since childhood.

A lifelong spiritual maverick, I have found that my views on things, although evolving, often do not mix too well with standard, conservative views of institutional religion. I have often felt like a square peg that the religious culture has consistently tried to pound into a round hole. Fortunately, the Creator has led me deeper and deeper into what has for me become an increasingly real and vital relationship with his Divine Light. For this, I am ever thankful.

This is, indeed, an exciting time to be alive. Our world is moving into a period of rapid transition during which new, vital energies are sweeping the planet and, in their wake, change is occuring at a pace never seen before. This is especially true in terms of our religious structures as many of the old, now empty edifices are crumbling and new, more relevant “wineskins” are emerging.

Moreover, it is imperative that we come to understand that America is rapidly becoming not only post-modern, and post-Christian, it is morphing into a “post-religious” culture. People in large numbers are seeking spiritual solutions to life’s problems outside the paramaters of the traditional religious organizations of the past. As a result of these socio-spiritual realities, it is necessary that we who call ourselves Christian find new, dynamic, and effective ways of carrying the message of the Master to a changing, but still hurting, world. The age of  transition is upon us, whether we like it or not.

Indeed, we draw truth from the same eternal wellspring, but we need new wineskins to carry Christ’s living water.

If you are a bit of a  maverick and spiritual misfit as well, it is my hope that in these pages you might find some degree of solace, comfort, and friendship. You are not alone. Take heart in being a misfit my friend,  for it is indeed the renegades of faith that have forged a vital, living core of spirituality through the centuries.

Among other things, I am the founder and President of LifeBrook Communications, an organization that conducts training programs, workshops, and offers lectures on a wide range of topics related to spiritual development and spiritual renewal, especially in relation to the new cultural and spiritual realities in which we live, move, and have our being.  We also explore and implement new and effective methods for using electronic media for spiritual formation. I know what you mean about the anger fundamentalists feel towards anyone seeking a spiritual path other than theirs. It really isn’t worth fighting against. I’m not much interested in Buddhism because I have found my way on another path, but I respect the openness and goodness of it, and keep an open mind to its beauty.

I agree with you that the fight is not really worth it. I also took a look at your web site. It is great! I could spend hours there.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I hope you and all at Our Lady Light of the Woods have a blessed Resurrection Day tomorrow. He is, indeed, risen and, as a result, we have life and have it abundantly.

      Blessings,

      L.D.T.
